Caring for the Japanese Garden of Peace: Building on Community Connections

On Sunday, I joined a community clean-up at the Japanese Garden of Peace in Hammersmith Park, London.

It was also an opportunity to discuss the garden’s future care with representatives of the Nippon Club, Friends of the Japanese Garden of Peace, the Japanese Garden Society (JGS), and others involved in supporting the garden. We were pleased to be joined by a Minister from the Embassy of Japan in the UK and to exchange ideas about how to sustain the garden for the future.

Caring for the garden brings local residents and people with connections to Japan together, creating opportunities to meet and build relationships. It is encouraging to see this activity grow into such a meaningful contribution to friendship between Japan and the UK.

To sustain these efforts, it is also important to connect the people who support the garden’s day-to-day care with specialist knowledge and skills in Japanese garden maintenance.

At Tomorroway, we hope to help establish a lasting framework for its care by bringing together the experience, contacts and networks of everyone involved.
